Part Two – It’s all about them

Some feedback I hear often from my clients is how much they enjoy the photos I take of their wedding guests and families.

They tell me how it’s great to see behind the scenes at their own wedding.  It’s fun for them to look back through all the parts of their wedding day that most of the time they were not even aware were happening.

As a bride and groom your attention is often taken up with trying to ensure that you speak to as many guests as you can.  But of course the rest of your wedding guests are busy enjoying themselves in the background.  On a wedding day I’m working hard to make sure that I try and capture as much of the atmosphere as possible.  I try and divide my time between the bride and groom and taking as many photographs of the wedding guests as I can.

To take great photos of the guests a wedding photographer needs to be close in with the action.  It’s easy to pick off headshots from the sidelines with a long lens but this kind of photography tends to leave me a little cold and the photos often look like they could have been taken anywhere.

I prefer to integrate myself into the crowd which puts people more at ease and often leads to wedding guests assuming I’m a friend of the bride and groom.  I like to think I get more natural photos as a result.
